Klein Memorial Auditorium

Located just outside the downtown, the Klein Memorial
Auditorium has an illustrious past and is a reestablishing itself as
a vital center in the city’s cultural life. This 1,400 seat Art
Deco theatre opened in 1940, built from funds willed to the City by Bridgeport
by residents Jacob Klein and Ray P. Klein. The Klein
has played host to programs ranging in scope from symphonies, operas, and theatre,
to local dance recitals, graduations, and meetings. Such luminaries as
Leonard Bernstein, Arthur Fiedler, Della Reese, Paul Robeson, Milton Berle, and
Victor Borge have graced her stage. Eleanor Roosevelt, Dr. Martin Luther
King, and President George W. Bush have spoken at the Klein.
In addition to its own season, the Klein also has been the home of the Greater
Bridgeport Symphony for more than 60 years under the baton of Maestro Gustav
