Do It Downtown!

Klein Memorial Auditorium

Located just outside the downtown, the Klein Memorial Auditorium has an illustrious past and is a reestablishing itself as a vital center in the city’s cultural life. This 1,400 seat Art Deco theatre opened in 1940, built from funds willed to the City by Bridgeport by residents Jacob Klein and Ray P. Klein.  The Klein has played host to programs ranging in scope from symphonies, operas, and theatre, to local dance recitals, graduations, and meetings.  Such luminaries as Leonard Bernstein, Arthur Fiedler, Della Reese, Paul Robeson, Milton Berle, and Victor Borge have graced her stage.  Eleanor Roosevelt, Dr. Martin Luther King, and President George W. Bush have spoken at the Klein.

In addition to its own season, the Klein also has been the home of the Greater Bridgeport Symphony for more than 60 years under the baton of Maestro Gustav Meier.  For more information on the symphony, please visit http://www.bridgeportsymphony.org/.
