McLevy Green
![]()
Situated in the heart of the historic downtown
district and shaded by leafy, mature trees, McLevy Green provides a tranquil
setting for many events throughout the year. Named for Bridgeport’s
beloved former Mayor Jasper McLevy, the green is a pleasant place for
downtown residents and workers to take a break for fresh air, enjoy a
brown bag lunch, or just relax on a park bench.
Adjacent to the Green is the historic McLevy Hall, a Greek Revival structure
that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. When
McLevy Hall was new, it was visited by a little-known young politician
from Illinois who was campaigning for president. He gave a speech
on its steps and a bronze plaque commemorates the event today. His
name? None other than Abraham Lincoln.

McLevy Green is located at the corner of State and Main Streets.
