McLevy Green
Located in the heart of the historic downtown district and shaded by leafy, mature trees, McLevy Green (named for Bridgeport’s beloved former mayor Jasper McLevy) provides a tranquil setting for many events throughout the year, including
- Sweetport
- International Sounds of Summer Music Festival
- Bridgeport’s Holiday Tree Lighting
When not providing a stage for events, the green is a pleasant place for downtown workers to take a break for fresh air, enjoy a brown bag lunch, or just relax on the park bench.
Adjacent to the Green is the historic McLevy Hall, a Greek Revival structure that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. When McLevy Hall was new, it was visited by a little-known young politician from Illinois who was campaigning for president. He gave a speech on its steps, and a bronze plaque commemorates the event today. His name? None other than Abraham Lincoln.
